Here I have explained about spark plug and its maintenance tips.  For any Yamaha Fazer or FZ or FZ-S bikes the spark plug cleaning is the same and you can clean the spark plug by yourself at home without any problem.

What is Spark Plug

It is the spark plug which gives continuous firing in the engine of your bike with which the power is generated and distributed through the proper channels and in turn your bike moves on.  If spark plug stops firing then immediately your bike will stop moving.  It is like your bike is dead.  It won't move.  So, keeping the spark plug well maintained is very important thing that every bike rider must know.


What are the effects of Spark Plug

It is the spark plug which says the health of your bike.  Seeing the spark plug you can diagnose the condition of your bike and take necessary action to get back your bike into smooth riding condition.

If spark plug turns black then your bike will move very hard.  You will feel strain while riding your bike.  Your bike's mileage will be dropped and you will get low mileage.  Your bike's pick-up will be dropped and you will feel as if you are driving an old outdated bike.  Overall performance of your bike will be very, very poor while driving.


Why this Spark Plug gets Black

The reason behind why the spark plug turns black is your bike's air filter is blocked more than 50% with dust.  If air filter is blocked then automatically spark plug turns black and it will emit black smoke through the exhaust pipe of your bike.  And your bike's mileage will drop.  And your bike will suddenly stop while riding because of this spark plug turning black.

Carburetor AF screw mistuning also results in black spark plug.  So, don't touch the AF screw unnecessarily.


Solution for the Spark Plug turned Black

So, what you have to do is clean the air filter or replace the air filter with a new air filter and clean the spark plug or replace the spark plug with new one.


Now, your bike will run as a refreshed new bike. Bike's pick-up and performance will increase.  Bike's mileage will increase.  Your bike will run with more power and energy as a new bike.


Problems you will face due to Black Spark Plug

Problem 1:  Sometimes when you are on the way of your journey, your bike will stop suddenly, this is due to spark plug turned fully black in colour and air filter is blocked more than 50% with dust.

Solution:  In this situation, you have to just put your bike aside of the road and open the spark plug and clean it and your bike will start.  Now, happily move on with your journey.  And as soon as you go to home or service center then what you have to do is clean the air filter or replace air filter with new one and your bike will never stop suddenly in your journey.


Problem 2:  If your bike is not starting in one kick or not starting by pressing ignition button in the morning or bike not starting in cold.

Solution:

1.  In indicates that it is the time to change the engine oil of your bike.  When engine oil gets hard or expired then your bike will have severe starting problem in the early morning.

2.  Clean or change the air filter.  Blocked air filter causes severe starting problem in the early morning and also black smoke from the exhaust pipe of your bike.

3.  Clean or replace spark plug.  If spark plug turns black means then you have to clean the air filter as well as the spark plug.  You have to clean both of them at the same time.
